Established in 1980, and incorporated in 1982, Uptown Shelby Association (USA) operates the Main Street program in Shelby, NC. USA was one of the first five Main Street Associations in North Carolina and one of the first 30 Main Street programs nationally under the pilot program launched by the National Trust For Historic Preservation. USA has four main priorities: economic vitality, historic preservation, promotion of Uptown events and working with other organizations to improve the quality of life and commerce in the Uptown area. The 4-Point Main Street approach is a proven model for community involvement in development and redevelopment of business and civic districts. We are governed by a Board of Directors, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm at our offices, 211 South Trade Street. Uptown Shelby business and property owners and members of the public are encouraged to attend. The Uptown Shelby Association staff, its board of directors, host of volunteer supporters and community partners work together to promote economic development and historic preservation in Uptown Shelby, and to produce events that attract business, shopping and dining.
