The City of Kings Mountain became recognized as a North Carolina Main Street City in 2009. Initially, the revitalization efforts in downtown Kings Mountain were spearheaded by the Mountaineer Partnership, LLC - a non-profit organization established in 2001. MPI worked in conjunction with the City of Kings Mountain and other partners to revitalize the historic downtown core. In 2011, the Kings Mountain Main Street Program was made a department under the Kings Mountain City Government. The commitment to strong public-private partnerships driving revitalization efforts in downtown Kings Mountain has never wavered. The Main Street Advisory Board is comprised of local stakeholders and senior city staff. The same is true of the members of the four Main Street committees which follow the Main Street Four Point Approach® of organization, design, promotion, and economic restructuring.
